How acupuncture works:

Acupuncture is a part of Chinese Medicine which considers most health problems to be casued by imbalances in the body. Chinese medicine focuses on fixing these imbalances so the body can heal itself. Your body has an amazing ability to heal itself, sometimes it just needs support to get your health back on track.

Most pharmaceutical drugs are focused on treating symptoms rather than curing health problems. If you accept that health problems are caused by imbalances in the body then it's logical to choose a treatment that works with your body to restore balance and therefore resolve unwanted health problems rather than just mask the problems with medication.

Chinese medicine is an excellent complement to Western medicine which is usually more effective in treating acute problems such as trauma and infectious diseases where as Chinese medicine is usually more effective in treating chronic problems.

Is acupuncture painful?

In short no. Acupuncture is actually a very relaxing experience, it feels like having all your tension and stress melted away. We commonly treat a number of painful conditions and people generally walk out feeling so much better than when they came in. Sceptical? You won't believe it until you try it! If we're wrong and you have a bad experience, we'll give you your money back.

Does Acupuncture Work?

Its Ok even some of our friends ask us this question! Our experience tells us that:

Acupuncture is one of the most effective treatments for many common complaints. Most people understand acupuncture can help relieve painful conditions like RSI, headaches, back pain and arthritis, however as more and more research evidence is established, acupuncture is becoming commonly used for fertility and pregnancy issues, digestive disorders, mental health issues and much more. Don't just take our word for it, see what the

World Health Organisation has to say about acupuncture...

In an official report, Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials, the World Health Organisation has listed the following symptoms, diseases and conditions that have been shown through controlled trials to be treated effectively by acupuncture:

  • low back pain
  • neck pain
  • sciatica
  • tennis elbow
  • knee pain
  • periarthritis of the shoulder
  • sprains
  • facial pain (including craniomandibular disorders)
  • headache
  • dental pain
  • tempromandibular (TMJ) dysfunction
  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • induction of labor
  • correction of malposition of fetus (breech presentation)
  • morning sickness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • postoperative pain
  • stroke
  • essential hypertension
  • primary hypotension
  • renal colic
  • leucopenia
  • adverse reactions to radiation or chemotherapy
  • allergic rhinitis, including hay fever
  • biliary colic
  • depression (including depressive neurosis and depression following stroke)
  • acute bacillary dysentery
  • primary dysmenorrhea
  • acute epigastralgia
  • peptic ulcer
  • acute and chronic gastritis

This is not a complete list as there are many further traditional uses of acupuncture where the clinical trials to establish modern scientific validation are still being undertaken.
