  • Dr John Carr

    Osteopathy

John sees osteopathy as a form of manual medicine relevant to a wide range of health conditions, including back, neck and other musculoskeletal pain, but also to systemic conditions such as headache and migraine, jaw pain, chronic pain, fatigue and burnout, stress and anxiety. He also warmly welcomes neurodiverse patients.

John uses a wide range of techniques such as massage and rhythmic joint mobilisation but also has a special interest in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field (craniosacral therapy), which is often well suited to patients who may be sensitive or have reacted to direct treatment styles. He appreciates the potential of all approaches to address health conditions at their underlying source, drawing on the body’s self-healing and self-regulatory capacity. John also supports patients’ health with simple take-home exercises, mindfulness and breathing.

Dr John Carr grew up in Canberra and originally studied history at the ANU, and in his first career worked in some of Canberra’s national cultural institutions including the National Museum of Australia and Old Parliament House. He then pursued a long-standing interest in holistic healthcare, initially through massage and other bodywork therapies, later completed an Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine, and finally was drawn to osteopathy and completed a Master of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Southern Cross University.

John is also passionate about sustainability, permaculture and social justice issues, and sees the osteopathic principles of balance and regeneration as directly relevant to the ecological themes of our time. In his spare time he loves being outdoors, cycling, swimming, bushwalking, kayaking or just out being in nature.

  • Daniella Joy

    Reiki

Daniella is an intuitive healer who has always been drawn to the intersection of spirituality and science. Many years of studying the way the brain deals with experience, emotions and creativity alongside a deep exploration of spiritual practices has led her to explore many healing modalities, eventually leading her to the practice of Reiki.

She is honoured to provide loving support in the practice of Reiki so that you may unlock any resistance holding you back to experience absolute calm, ease stress and step into the highest version of you.

    What is Reiki?

Reiki is pure, healing universal life force energy that flows through the universe. Everything has this energy in it–plants, animals, universe, you. Reiki is a way of channelling and connecting with this energy. The practice of Reiki is a beautiful way to heal the body from stresses, traumas and pressures of day-to-day life.

What can you expect during a Reiki session?

Reiki is an energetic form of healing using the hands. During a Reiki treatment the pure flow of energy is re-aligned within the body. It washes down, clearing obstructions and strengthening the flow of energy.

Envision a free-flowing river of energy flowing easily through the body. Occasionally a pebble or a rock will fall into that river, making the free flow more difficult. These pebbles are human worries, fear and anger and each pebble builds on top of the other.

“Wow” is a word Daniella hears frequently when clients open their eyes after a session.

Whether a deep release, a small shift, a renewed spirit, a healed heart, or a physical improvement, the experience of Reiki is different for everyone as the pure flow of energy is realigned.

Daniella will open a space for you so that Reiki can help you to reach the places in your body that we don’t normally have access to, so that you may remember the infinite possibility, wisdom, and magic that exists within you.

  • Carole Young

    Trauma and Chronic Pain Therapist
    Physiotherapist

Carole was a pioneer and leader in the field of Occupational Health, Safety & Rehabilitation (OHS&R) to Australian industry. Apart from 35 years’ experience in occupational rehabilitation, Carole has also studied, taught and consulted in the field of sustainability to Australian businesses for 10 years.

Carole became frustrated at the poor psychological outcomes of workers who had sustained work injuries, both physical and psychological. It led her in 2016 to seek faster, more effective ways to treat PTSD, trauma, depression and anxiety. Carole now uses a number of cutting edge approaches to her trauma work. The Richards Trauma Process (TRTP) , Associative Awareness Technique (AAT) and Somatic Experiencing are her preferred approaches now, because they get extraordinary outcomes quickly. Carole is now one of a few physiotherapists in Australia who offer a comprehensive mind /body, trauma informed approach to therapy.

Carole takes clients who are seeking to be free of old behaviours, addictions and dysfunctional habits, that are caused by past trauma. As a physiotherapist doing trauma work, Carole was amazed at how chronic pain conditions resolved after trauma therapy. Chronic pain and trauma are not always connected, but very often they are. Science tells us that chronic pain can be due to a sensitised and "hyper vigilant" nervous system. This is a nervous system believing, and responding to, anxious, depressing or stressful thoughts. Pain then becomes a way that the body can keep us 'safe' and away from the dangers of life. The field of psychotherapy tells us that exploring unconsciously held thoughts and beliefs and their effect on the nervous system can provide vital clues to why pain persists.

This may seem outside of the usual scope of practice for a physiotherapist, but for those few physiotherapists who have done comprehensive training in a trauma informed approach and trauma therapies, it is a very powerful tool to help people in chronic pain because it can gives so much information about what is going on in the body.

Carole's focus and passion now is working with the really tough trauma and chronic pain conditions, bringing a broader perspective to the standard physio-therapeutic model. Carole also offers telehealth.
