Scar Tissue Problems
If your body doesn’t break down scar tissue completely, it will often spread — triggering your body to compensate. Any kink, pull or restriction in one area can affect everything else. If your movements are restricted, your muscles will be forced to work harder. If your nerves are trapped, your circulation can be restricted — and so on. The reason for this is because you’re essentially held together by one huge single sheet of connective tissue or fascia. This fascia wraps around your entire body like an intricate spider web and influences the way you function — from your muscles and your bones to your organs, nerves, veins, and arteries.
Scars may have a huge influence on our presenting problems. They can cause:
restrictions on the fascia
reduction in blood and lymph flow
weakened muscular strength
reduced flow of energy
inhibited joint movement
They may feel and look unpleasant and may even upset us emotionally due to the traumatic events that created them.
Fortunately help is at hand! One of our most experienced therapists, Takako Mizogami, is trained in McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release.
She uses specialised massage techniques (Fascial and Soft Tissue Manipulation), applying gentle, feather like hands-on pressure. It aims to release rigid tissue, improve blood and lymphatic flow, and restore sensation, flexibility, and core function to the affected area. She will also typically teach gentle, directional self-massage techniques and stretches to continue your progress between appointments. Usually only a maximum of 3-4 appointments are needed, however this depends on the condition of your scar and how your body responds – it may be less or more.
